I don't know about you but I am in the mood for some good news—and nature photos of a non-threatening variety. A reader sent these pictures of a trio of owlets whom they spotted in their wooded yard. When the homeowner first heard them, she thought they were cats, until she saw one of the owls, described as being about a foot tall, on her backporch. These county owlets seem to be a little younger than the Forest Park owlets featured so often on this blog (see a recent photo of Dalton here).
Thank you dear reader for sharing your pictures of these beautiful creatures and making another dreary weather day a little brighter.
P. S. From Mark Glenshaw, the Owlman of Forest Park: Bravo on the post about the other owlets! They are Barred Owls, a medium-large owl and one of the few dark-eyed owls in North America. There are Barred Owls in Forest Park including a pair that lives close to Charles and Sarah and that's a topic with many interesting angles!
What a wonderful treat to see these gorgeous owls! We had a little screech owl visit the farm for several hours three years ago, and it was an amazing experience. I stood just a few feet from it, staring in awe and snapping away with my camera, and it didn’t seem to mind a bit:

They’re such stunning creatures, aren’t they? 🙂
