Motorcycles and scooters of many varieties (above and below) have been observed buzzing about the neighborhood this summer in record numbers.
What has really caught my eye is the number of women who have adopted this means of transportation. Perhaps you've seen the Jimmy Johns' delivery woman zipping around, above.
And here's Coop, who lives in South City, shown leaving Cafe Osage the other morning as she headed off to work as a dog walker in the neighborhood.
And, finally, meet Cathy McGovern, an agent with Sandy Bender Real Estate. Cathy (who is also a registered nurse) and her husband left New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. They moved to Florida and bought a home in Celebration, which they still own. After several years working in the south, Cathy's husband, an emergency room doctor, took a job at St. Mary's Hospital. And they've happily landed in the CWE.
Riding her Italian-made Piaggio was the most convenient way to get around a congested New Orleans. Cathy belonged to a scooter club there and members decorated their scooters for Mardi Gras parades. She continues the decorating tradition here with a windshield ringed with yellow flowers. When she finds the time, Cathy hopes to join a scooter club sponsored by Vespa St. Louis located at 5127 Delmar, between Kingshighway and Union. If this summer is an indication of how popular this mode of transportation has become, Cathy should have no trouble finding like-minded enthusiasts.
