For months it's been rumored that Whole Foods is coming to the CWE. Reporter Tim Bryant broke the news in today's Post-Dispatch that the vacant property at the corner of Euclid and West Pine will soon house a seven-story high-end apartment building with a 30,000 s.f. Whole Foods Market on the first floor. This is great news regarding a prominently situated property that has been vacant for many years and was, until recently, a real eyesore.
In today's article Mills Properties Chief Executive Bruce Mills says he expects construction to begin early next year and take approximately 22 months to complete. While Mills says he has a letter of intent from Whole Foods, a spokesperson for the grocery chain said they do not discuss new locations until leases are signed. The CWE Whole Foods will be the third location in St. Louis.
It's exciting news that Whole Foods recognizes the potential in a CWE location. How this addition will affect Straub's, Shapiro's Market on Newstead, and the Lindell Schnucks remains to be seen.
What great news for our neighborhood! Maybe this will inspire other markets in our neighborhood to carry fresh local produce.
