Actually…the beef's coming to the prime corner of Maryland & Euclid sometime next year when Sub Zero Vodka Bar's Derek and Lucas Gamlin open a steak house in Liluma's space, above. Liluma, which has been a mainstay on the popular corner for the past nine years, will serve its last meal this Saturday evening, December 22nd.
I ran into Chef Brad Watts as he was straightening up the patio last evening. Watts has worked for Liluma's owner, Jimmy Fiala, for nine years, four of them as chef at Liluma. After the closing Watts will be returning to work at The Crossing, Fiala's flagship restaurant in Clayton.
Word is that the new restaurant will be expanded into the space to the south, formerly occupied by Massage Luxe. I was not able to contact the Gamlin brothers before this posting, so have no details on the new venture or when they expect to open.
I know I am not alone when I say that I will really miss Liluma.
Just what we need…another restaurant & a “steak house” to boot. I much preferred your previous post on the various small shops in our neighborhood.
