Dear neighbors…. See below and please tell/bring your friends. I hope many of you will help this summer, this project is just a few blocks away, and what happens on Delmar is important to all of us. If you have a list serve for your block, I would appreciate it if you would forward this to others.. Thx Lyda 607 3452
Dear Gardeners, Adventurers, Folks who just want to ‘make it better’…
The Delmar Sunflower+ Project is an initiative to Activate and Beautify Delmar west of Kingshighway near Third Degree Glass – south side of 51xx Delmar .
Once this stretch of Delmar was a thriving residential community with hundreds of residents – today it sits vacant, forgotten and forlorn. But, with a little work and maybe some laughs, this part of our community can be something you can view with pride.
Watch this 2 minute video… you’ll get the idea.
Join the team to create a beautiful Sunflower Garden on Delmar this summer?
· Saturday May 10 – Clearing ruble – Getting Ready to Plant – 9am
· Saturday May 24 – Seed Planting Day - 9am
· Saturday June 7 – Weeding & Maintenance – 9am
We need 40-50 people on May 10th. So please let us know if you think you can make it by sending me an email: [email protected].
Show up at 51xx Delmar at 9 ish… bring your work gloves… wear work clothes and shoes. We’ll have some fun getting back to the earth. The payoff will come over the summer, as fields of sunflowers brighten a block that was once forgotten.
Sunflower + Project, is one of five projects aimed at rethinking vacant land in St. Louis as part of the inaugural Sustainable Land Lab, a partnership between Washington University and the City of St. Louis. The Sunflower+ Project: StL turns previously developed urban lots into a community asset through the planting of sunflowers. With a goal of eventually spurring redevelopment of these vacant parcels.
Many thanks from the “Delmar Sunflower Team”
