Owning a car In many major cities around the country can be more of a burden than it's worth, so it wasn't surprising to see an entire parking lot filled with WeCars on a recent visit to San Francisco. Since then, this convenience has been on my wish list for the CWE.
Earlier this week I was pleasantly surprised to notice a Prius that's part of Enterprise CarShare (formerly WeCar) program parked in the Argyle Garage. (The garage entry off York Avenue is my "backdoor" to the library.) I've since learned this new location is an extension of the company's existing Downtown St. Louis program. There's another CarShare vehicle located in the neighborhood on Lot B at Washington University School of Medicine.
Membership in the program, age 21 and up, is $35 a year. Rental rates, which include gas, are $9 per hour, $65 a day. The first 200 miles are free; $.20/mile thereafter. Here is a link to more, including info about insurance and how to reserve a car.
I contacted the company and learned that a sensor on the car allows access to and from the garage at no extra charge.
An Argyle Garage attendant said he sees the car come and go quite often. If demand is strong, perhaps Enterprise will locate a second CarShare vehicle there.
You never know when you might need some wheels, now you know where to find them.
