TechArtista, the Collaborative Working Environment at 4818 Washington, will celebrate its 1st anniversary on May 1. The momentum established in that first year is impressive, with membership now numbering 100 and the success stories continuing to unfold. Two startups housed there recently launched Kickstarter and Thunderclap campaigns that have gotten off to extremely successful starts, see below.
Removed From Play, another company based at T/A, has garnered significant nationwide attention for its sideline concussion screening test. Synek, another successful startup that created a countertop beer dispenser, was based at TechArtista until a Kickstarter campaign launched them into the big leagues and they moved to CIC in the CWE's Cortex District.
Genius Games Kickstarter!
- Last week John Coveyou and Genius Games launched a Kickstarter campaign for "Ion: A Compound Building Game" (see below). 8 days in and they are already 430% funded!
Ultradia Thunderclap!
- To better understand what TechArtista members Zimin Hang and Ben Bronsther have created, read this recent article in The Riverfront Times. Essentially, these are W. U. grads from the D.C. area who have created Chrona, a soft foam pad that slides between the pillow and pillowcase and, via smartphone, monitors brain waves and pulses sound waves that aid sleep. Their Thunderclap campaign launched yesterday (Thursday) and they are more than 50% funded in just 24 hours.
