Gary Meier, Director of Angel Baked Cookies, found a CWE-based angel of his own in entrepreneur John Coveyou, creator of Genius Games and a member of TechArtista, a co-working environment in the neighborhood. Because of Coveyou's success funding production of his science-based board games through Kickstarter, Meier approached him for help raising money for Angel Baked Cookies, which "empowers youth one cookie at a time." Coveyou did more than offer advice, he donated his time and expertise building the entire Kickstarter project for Angel Baked Cookies.
Coveyou sent out the following appeal yesterday:
"In the area just north of TechArtista, the high school graduation rates are less than 50%, and the area is riddled with youth violence, poverty and crime. Angel Baked Cookies teaches kids how to bake cookies and then sell them in local grocery stores (you can get them at Straubs & Schnucks in CWE). The teens in this program have a graduation rate of 100% right now and 90% go on to higher education!!!
It would really mean a lot if you could take a second to check out the page (see video above), donating a $1 (or more if you want) and consider sharing this amazing project that is making our city a safer place to live!"
Most of us don't know where to start to help solve some of the biggest problems facing today's youth in St. Louis and around the country – staying in school and finding employment. Angel Baked Cookies, which was founded in 2007, is a worthwhile way to begin.
