I got through third grade after Barat Hall closed up. I just met some of my classmates from third grade that ended up going to high school with. We were reminiscing about the playground, the holidays at Barat Hall., Our lambs, medals for doing well in a subject, Mother Johnson, Mr Kunce. Sister Dyer, and classmates that were still in St. Louis. I would love to get our third grade class together for a reunion of sorts to celebrate our old school
What year did you graduate? I posted this article so many years ago and for some reason more people are commenting now than did when it was first published.
I went to Barat Hall through 3rd grade. My sister went City House. It was ashamed they closed them down.
We were in the same class.
Kerry!
I didn’t know you went to Barat Hall! My older siblings (Meesey’s) and cousins (Carroll’s) went to Barat Hall and City House. Love the old stories. Been ages since I last saw you! Hope you are doing well.
I went to Barat Hall for Kindergarten through half of fourth grade, in early to mid 1960’s. Mother Johnson was in charge of the boys and Mr. Kunz was the principal both were strict but very caring. Mother Johnson was not only greatly respected, but very loved. Unfortunately I did not appreciate how wonderful Barat Hall was. Shame on Cardinal Ritter and the Diocese for closing City House/Barat Hall and tearing it down against many peoples’ complaints.
Hi George, I saw your comment on “A grandmother’s memories of City House and Barat Hall”. My father and his older sisters went to Barat Hall & City House. DOB, Mary 1918, Betty 1919, Martha 1921 and my dad Henry 1924. I was an army brat, I went to ten schools in thirteen years, two for sixth grade. Why I was writing, I am looking for pictures of Barat Hall & City House. I’ve been looking for twenty years and can’t find any images online. I even went to The Sisters of the Sacred Heart office in St Louis and they didn’t have any for me. The man that wrote the book about ‘Schools of St Louis’ didn’t show an image either. If you or any of your friends have any photos, I hope you can share them with me. I see th post is eight years old but I wanted to check with you. Thanks, Mike
I was a Barat Hall graduate (Class of 1955) and was taught by Mother Johnson and Mr. Kunz—— tough but excellent teachers —— went on to graduate from St. Louis U. High, West Point and Georgetown Law Center—- Vietnam veteran, lawyer in the White House, US Dept of Justice, General Counsel of the US Air Force and Federal Judge in Washington D.C.—- Barat Hall was my “launch pad”

That’s one hell of a c.v. Congratulations Your Honor. You did well. Mother Johnson and Mr. Kunz (that’s the spelling I remember) were educators. I left in 1966 or 67 to attend Priory.
Nicki,
I so enjoyed your posts about City House … I made my First Communion there, all by myself at the nun’s Mass
at 6:00 AM one Saturday. Small white prie dieu at the altar. Very very sleepy. I distinctly remember thinking
that if I closed my eyes and took a little nap, they’d think I was praying. You know the rest … boom. Sound asleep,
fell off the prie dieu, lots of attention, cocoa in the sacristy.
Happy Easter.
