Local businesses adjust to the new reality: Updated list

NA few weeks ago I was all set to publicize information about 7 CWE restaurants, pictured below, that are on STL Today’s Restaurant Critic Ian Froeb’s STL 100 list. Vicia in Cortex Innovation District is #1. The newly opened Salt & Smoke at 392 N. Euclid made the list too, though it opened after the paper’s October 19, 2019 cutoff and was included because of the other Salt & Smoke locations.

Since then however, the world as we knew it has turned upside down. Because of the Covid-19 virus, the neighborhood’s restaurants and bars have closed or will close by Thursday night, while some are now offering curbside service or delivery only.

We should be very concerned about the health of residents of our CWE community and also the health of our neighborhood businesses, which we hope can survive this unprecedented crisis. These businesses can use your support now and in the weeks to come.

CWEScene.com has published a list of businesses within the CWE North Community Business District that are closed or changing how they operate, see below.

The Vino Gallery,  4701 McPherson, is not mentioned below, but propreitor Alex Head advised that they are open for carry out or delivery on larger orders.  Following the CWEScene’s list are other CWE businesses that aren’t in the district but are local favorites as well.

COVID-19 CWE Business Updates

Many CWE businesses are operating differently during the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak. In an abundance of caution and in the interest of public health, some businesses are closing temporarily, reducing their hours, or changing how they operate. We will constantly be updating this list, so check back often.

The following CWE businesses are temporarily closed:

  • Bluemercury
  • The Candle Fusion Studio (If you have previously created candles that are ready to pick-up, you may do so this week: Wednesday-Friday from 12-3 p.m. at both studio locations, Central West End and Historic St. Charles.)

  • East • West (Although the store is temporarily closed, you can still shop for items on their website. Also, feel free to send them a direct message on Instagram with any delivery/pick-up requests.)

  • Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams (check the website as it looks like they may deliver)

The following CWE businesses have reduced their hours or operations:

  • Houska Gallery: By Appointment Only
  • Paul Mitchell The School St. Louis: They have suspended guest services in their Clinic Classroom, in addition to campus tours, until April 6 (subject to change). Requests for appointments will resume on April 1.
  • projects+gallery: By Appointment Only

All restaurants in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, and St. Charles County must temporarily suspend dine-in service until further notice beginning at midnight on Thursday, March 19. Here are the CWE business offering carryout, curbside pick-up, and/or delivery:

  • Left Bank Books: 399 N Euclid, 314-367-6731; FREE SHIPPING on all book orders online and by phone, from now until further notice. Free curbside pick-up or $6 local delivery. They will also be livestreaming some of their events on Facebook.

  • Pi Pizzeria: 400 N Euclid, 314-367-4300; carryout, curbside pick-up, and delivery. Trying to feed the kids? Buy a carryout large pizza and get a small thin crust cheese or pepperoni pizza for $3.14. (If you order online, your bill will be adjusted at pick-up). Additionally, when you purchase any large pizza get any bottle of their house wine for just $10. This offer CAN be combined with the $3.14 small cheese or pepperoni pizza.

  • Vicia in Cortex Innovation Community is offering family style meals for 2 to 4 persons (curbside or stop in to pick up).
  • West End Grill & Pub, 354 N. Boyle, will close for table service Thursday night, but will remain open for curbside delivery starting today from 4 to 9 p.m. Click link for menu.
  • Brasserie and Taste are closed.
  • NEW INFO: Bowood Farms, 4601 Olive, and Holliday, 4600 Olive, is open for curbside delivery starting March 24. Cafe Osage is closed.
  • St. Louis Art Supply and Cornflower Cafe are temporarily closed. HOWEVER, order online, as I did yesterday, and proprietor Carson Monetti will mail it out, or purchase a gift certificate for a friend.
  • Fields Foods, 625 N. Euclid, is not set up to deliver groceries but can deliver wine, beer and liquor, minibardelivery.com (put in zip code).
  • Whole Foods, Euclid and West Pine, offers delivery to Prime members but website now says that service may not be available at the present time. Check website for update.
  • Aldi, Kingshighway and Delmar, uses Instacart for delivery.

  1. Buongiorno from Roma CWE friends. Nancy and I have been quarantined for two weeks watching this crisis unfold. It is very real and you must take seriously.
