Hoffman describes the small piece above as one of her Covid Paintings.
The charcoal and graphite drawing above started with a crack in the 30″x 23″ paper. Hoffman utilized the imperfection to create a minimal landscape reminiscent of one she had photographed in Peru.
The oil on paper paintings shown above are a collaboration between the artist and her son Max. He painted the surfaces, she followed with the lines.
“Chaos has a shape,” Hoffman said, of the gouache, pencil & ink piece she created above left.
More Covid Paintings are shown above.
“For many years my work has been process driven—broad experimentation and mark-making that didn’t really change. I found calm in repetition when creating the series shown above, similar to the way stitching is calming.” These small pieces are 7 1/2″ x 11.”
“I also made what were previously called travel paintings, but now they are a response to a changing season (Spring) and to events in the news—making them more like journal paintings.”
