Flora Conservancy volunteer Jack Brier sent the following information about May 7th’s plant sale at the greenhouses in Forest Park:
“We are excited to return to our traditional in person sale after two years of online only sales due to COVID. To protect our volunteers and the public we are requiring shoppers wear face masks while inside the greenhouses.
The sale is always held the Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend. This year the sale is May 7th from 8:00-AM-1:00 PM and will take place at the city greenhouses in Forest Park. There is no physical address for the greenhouse facility and the nearest building is the Admin building located at 5600 Clayton Ave. The greenhouses are just past that where the road deadends at highway 40/61.
We will have a plant valet station set up just outside the greenhouse where volunteers will watch purchased plants while shoppers retrieve their cars. Shoppers may drive up and we will help them load their plants.
Our volunteers have been busy all winter growing thousands of plants. The list of plants is rather lengthy and includes annuals, herbs, veggies, tropicals, succulents, houseplants, some perennials and natives. Our pricing is well below retail and most plants are $3.00-$6.00 with some specialty/larger items priced in the $10-$25.00.
We accept cash, checks and credit cards.
After the May 7th event we will take inventory and put the remaining plants for sale on our website at www.floraconservancy.org. Shoppers may order online and greenhouse staff and volunteers will pick the plants, box them up and contact the customer to arrange pick up at the greenhouse.
All proceeds from the sale promote our work in Forest Park.
For people interested in gardening we welcome volunteers of all skill levels. We work Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 9:00 AM-11:00 AM. Once the sale is over we will move outdoors for our work sessions and garden outside late into the fall. We take a break after Thanksgiving and then start all over again working in the greenhouses beginning in late February or early March.
To hear a recorded message of where we are working people may call the Flora hotline at (314) 53-FLORA.
