Linda Horsley has shaken off the pandemic blues and reopened Horsley Arts, her gallery located at 4374 Olive between Newstead and Boyle. The gallery closed shortly after a group exhibition in March, 2020 (see Buena Suerta Social Club post here), a matter of days before everything shut down.
The current exhibition, which features work by St. Louisans Cecelia (Cece) Davidson and Dina Fachin, opened Friday, October 6th, and closes next Saturday, November 4.
Over the past 30 years Davidson, above, traveled the world, lived in L. A. for a time, and eventually found her way back to St. Louis.
Of her current work, A Lilium Love Affair, the artist says she was “spitting in the eye of Covid.” Until this series, she explained, she hadn’t done a lot of “real life” paintings, “but the Asiatic orchids (she purchased weekly during the shutdown at the Schnucks on Lindell) reminded me as I painted them to live every moment to the fullest, and that all any of us has is time.”
Davidson said this body of work was a bit of a departure for her, as in the past she used a lot of color. In the acrylic paintings shown above, several leaves are accented with gold foil.

Davidson calls this grouping her “breakfast paintings.” She explained that light spills into her kitchen window at the Metropolitan Artists Lofts in Grand Center, and she would paint as she drank her morning coffee.
Cecelia Davidson currently teaches art at the Barclay House in Clayton.
In 2001, Dina Fachin, above, left her native Italy for California where she pursued her doctoral degree in Native American Studies at UC Davis. In 2006, she came to St. Louis to teach Italian and Spanish in St. Louis University’s Language Department. Her bio indicates that she’s been creating and exhibiting art as long as she’s been in the U.S.
“In her projects,” the bio states, “Fachin examines the human condition, issues of climate and environmental crisis, time, memory, identity, and sense of place.”

and Fachin’s Laura, soft pastel on paper.
It’s short notice, but I hope you’ll find time to view this exhibition before it closes November 4. Both artists are extremely talented, and you’ll enjoy the visit with Linda Horsley, a talented artist herself. Horsley Arts, 4374 Olive, (314) 243-3879, by appointment.
Thank you! Always appreciate new and important information.
