A crew of Doggie Wardens, each with a “guilty as charged for disorderly conduct” canine, waited while the rest of the four-legged parade participants assembled on the McPherson lot. They greeted each other with woofs and yips, and then settled down as they ambled over to Maryland Plaza.
The costumes for this event are always whimsical. I often wonder how many treats are required to persuade a dog to don a hat and coat. On top of that, some of the family groups even dressed alike, see example below. Whatever the challenges, their efforts added sparkle to an otherwise frosty, overcast day.
Hats off to emcee Trish Bush, not photographed, who was able to corral the contestants into a version of Ring Around the Rosie, i.e. Doggie Sit.
Many thanks to Kate Haher, Executive Director of the CWENorthCID, and Maryland Plaza’s Frances Thompson for organizing another wonderful day in the neighborhood. Also thanks to the officers of the SLMPD’s 5th District for helping keep Euclid free of traffic for both parades.
Next up: A pared-down Adult Costume Contest.
