The neighborhood came alive last Saturday for the 14th annual CWE Window Walk and 19th annual Holiday on the Plaza celebration. Though the day was overcast and chilly, the weather seemed to spark the holiday spirit in those who attended, and to my surprise, added a delightful pop of color to the photographs.
There were activities on every corner throughout the afternoon, and carriage rides to take you there.
A reindeer on stilts from Circus Kaput.
A troupe from Lucille Rapp Dance Studio drew an appreciative crowd at the corner of Maryland and Euclid.
A trio from Caroling St. Louis, a group who perform all over St. Louis attired in period costumes, sang traditional holiday music.
The ice carver from Chef de Art Catering cleans up after finishing one of many ice sculptures he created on Maryland and McPherson.
An instructor from Perennial, a non-profit organization that offers classes on creative ways to recycle, was operating one of two craft stations for children on McPherson.
The s’mores booth, which was set up alongside Left Bank Books, was understandably a hot spot.
A balloon artist worked her magic in front of The Eye Bar.
A face painting artist from Circus Kaput was set up at Wolfgang’s Pet Stop.
The Kettle Corn booth was another popular spot. The ladies said they had given away almost all of the 400 bags they started with by 4:30 p.m.
Thanks to Kate Haher, executive director of the CWE Community Improvement District, and the crew of decorators who spruced up the neighborhood, for staging such a delightful afternoon. The CWE Window Walk continues for the next 3 Saturdays through December 23. A list of activities and entertainment for each Saturday can be found here.
Up next: Snapshots from Holiday on the Plaza. And after that: Photos of holiday windows, example above, which will be posted soon.
