My guess is that on Thursday morning the weather app was on overload as CWE families checked to see if the rains would stop in time for the 10 a.m. start of 2024’s Fourth of July Parade. The night before, board members of the Central West End Association Board, which organized the event, gathered online and decided not to cancel and instead roll the dice and take a chance that the parade could go on as scheduled. That was the right call.
Families started gathering at the corner of Euclid and McPherson around 9:30. The Mo Echo Brass Band, far left in the photo below, was there too, and for the 43rd year the CWE 4th of July Parade was off and running.Brian Flowers, right, president of the Central West End Association, thanked the CWEA Board, the sponsors, Kate Haher, executive director of the CWE North Community Improvement District and Maryland Plaza’s Frances Thompson, and the 9th District Police Department for controlling traffic during the parade.
9th Ward Alderman Michael Browning, above left, and CWEnder Lindsey Eby led the parade carrying the Central West End Association’s banner.
The CWEA handed out bubble blasters which were a tremendous hit, as you’ll see in some of the bubbly photos that follow.
To commemorate the Year of the Dragon…
