Several weeks ago, Head of School Alexis Wright emailed that New City School, which has traditionally participated in St. Louis City’s Gay Pride Parade downtown, had decided instead to plan their own parade through the CWE North’s Commercial District.
The date was set for Saturday, June 22 at 10 a.m. However, the day dawned hot and muggy, and since some of the participants were quite young, the organizers decided to change course, shortening the route and foregoing the planned walk to Maryland Plaza.
Instead, a group of 60 people including 35 families with children from ages 3 through 6th grade, faculty, staff and a few college-aged alumni paraded from the school—located at Waterman and Lake—east to Kingshighway, north to Westminster Place, west on Westminster and back to the campus.
Thanks to Alexis Wright for sending the info and the photos. I especially love the first photo of New City School’s banner with Maya Angelou’s quote: “…In diversity there is beauty and there is strength…” New City School families seem to live that lesson well.
Love these parade photos! The New City School children, teachers, and parents who made this happen make me even PROUDER to be part of our Central West End community. Right on!
