If you missed the October 18th gallery openings in the neighborhood, there’s still time to check them out. The three galleries that participated are Square One Gallery, whose current exhibition closes on Friday, November 22, Duane Reed Gallery’s show closes on Saturday, November 23, and Houska Gallery’s closes on Saturday, November 29.
Duane Reed Gallery is featuring works by artists Lindsay Pichaske, Kate Quinn, Jane Sauer and Carol Shinn.Gallerist Duane Reed, above.Lindsay Pichaske’s stunning Hare, low-fire ceramic, string, paint, 15.5 x 31 x16 inches.Textile artist Jane Sauer’s work is, according to the website,”the product of her experiences as an educator, a gallerist, and a protestor. Sauer’s highly political work addresses “…the sanitization of systems of violence using quilting and embroidery, applying vintage techniques to household objects associated with covering up and making one presentable.”Viewing Sauer’s Ravages of War, hand-quilted, stitched cotton, 72 x 36 inches, above and below.Duane Reed Gallery, 4729 McPherson, Tues. through Sat. 11 to 4.

According to the website, LaChance‘s paintings, above, explore “bold graphic works that create inventions of landscapes and meditations. Her process-driven paintings are built up through layers of acrylic, casein, latex, and spray paint on a fresco-secco ground over canvas.”

Square One Gallery is featuring two artists in the current exhibition, Miami-based contemporary artist Dan Alva and a presentation of print editions of works by Kenny Sharf
Dan Alva’s, left, is photographed with artist and Square One partner Ted Collier, and an unidentified guest.
According to the website, Alva was raised in Miami and credits his artistic foundation to his time spent working alongside his father in the family garage. His work re-imagines the classics, blending the traditional oil painting techniques of the Old Masters with modern patterns, creating a striking juxtaposition that captures the viewer’s attention.”

Square One Gallery, in partnership with Lococo Fine Art Publishing, is also exhibiting Woodz ‘N Thingz– a presentation of print editions from Kenny Scharf’s 2022 portfolio of the aforementioned title.
From Square One’s website: “Scharf attended Manhattan’s School of Visual Arts and came of age in the 1980s New York downtown art scene alongside his contemporaries Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat.”
