There was a new event added to the already jam-packed schedule for 2024’s Window Walk and Holiday on the Plaza. The organizers, Kate Haher and Frances Thompson, planned a Holiday Candle Procession led by Caroling St. Louis, above left. Parade-goers met at 449 N. Euclid where they were handed battery-operated candles and Christmas Carol music sheets. The group, that included all ages and a dog or two, meandered along Euclid on its way to Maryland Plaza just in time for the tree-lighting ceremony at 5 p.m.
Before the tree lighting, The Muny’s Holiday Troup, some of whom are shown above, delighted the crowd with fabulous singing and dancing, see video that follows.
9th Ward Alderman Michael Browning was there too, welcoming the crowd to the neighborhood and encouraging everyone to visit the CWE often and support the local shops and restaurants. The emcee, Buddy the Elf and his son mini-Buddy, are shown with Bai’lei and Sedrick, right, who were the official tree lighters of 2024. It was so adorable when Buddy asked what they were wearing (as if they were on the red carpet), and Bai’lei said “a dress” and Sedrick said “a suit.” Santa led the siblings to the tree and,of course, the beautiful tree lit up on cue. Thanks again to the organizers of last Saturday’s events, Kate Haher of the CWE North Community Improvement District and Maryland Plaza’s Frances Thompson and their many helpers, who orchestrated a perfect kick-off to the Holiday Season.
The Window Walk continues tomorrow, Saturday, December 14th and again next Saturday the 21st. The line-up is different each Saturday. Here’s the link.
