As the summer ramps up there are two upcoming family events that you should most certainly put on your calendars:
CWEA 4th of July Family Parade
Celebrate Independence Day with the Central West End Association (CWEA) Fourth of July Parade!
Line up with neighbors around 9:45 a.m. at Euclid and McPherson Avenues, then follow a festive brass band through the streets of the Central West End beginning at 10 a.m. We’ll wave flags, shake beads, and sing songs as we march to Maryland Avenue, then enjoy complimentary hot dogs, snow cones, face painters, and balloon twisters at the Maryland Plaza Fountain until noon.
Festive attire is encouraged! Deck out your bikes, strollers, pets, and kids in red, white, and blue, and enjoy this family-friendly event in the CWE!
This event is free and open to the public.
AND:
Romeo & Zooliet
Shakespeare in the Zoos
Well … what if the animals put on their very own Shakespearean performance?!
“Romeo & Zooliet” is a family-friendly stage adaptation produced exclusively for the Saint Louis Zoo, in partnership with the St. Louis Shakespeare Festival. The production features dazzling animal puppetry by world-renowned Michael Curry Design, known for its work on Broadway’s “The Lion King” and “Frozen” along with Olympic and Super Bowl ceremonies. It is adapted from the award-winning graphic novel The Stratford Zoo Midnight Revue Presents Romeo and Juliet by Ian Lendler.
How the Story Unfolds
“Romeo and Zooliet” tells the story of animals inside the Saint Louis Zoo mounting their own production of Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.” In this animal-centered version, the Montagues are herbivores and the Capulets are carnivores. Can Romeo, a prairie dog, and Juliet, a grizzly bear, cross the biological divide and become best friends?
