Tomorrow, June 14, is Flag Day, the 235th Anniversary of the adoption of the Stars and Stripes by the Continental Congress in 1777. A google search on Flag Day led to usflag.org maintained by Duane Streufert who has done extensive research on the celebration. To paraphrase Streufert, "after three decades of local celebrations around the country, Flag Day was officially established by the Proclamation of President Woodrow Wilson in 1916. Later, President Harry Truman signed an Act of Congress in 1949 designating June 14 as National Flag Day. The current 50-star flag was adopted by Executive Order of President Dwight Eisenhower dated August 21, 1959, the date Hawaii was admitted to the Union."
To celebrate the occasion, the CWE's Community Improvement District has installed 75 flags along Euclid from Lindell to Washington. The plan is for the flags to remain in place through Independence Day.
Great look!
Nicki,
