Update: On September 27 I introduced a free Covid testing site on The McPherson parking lot. Last Wednesday there was a sign on the lot that the Covid testing site had been moved to Ballpark Village. Yesterday there were multiple news reports (including from KSDK) that the Center for Covid Control, the company behind these sites in St. Louis and elsewhere across the country, was under investigation. Last evening, I reached out to the operator of the CWE site to find out what happened and have not as yet received a response. The original post follows.
Pharmacist & CWEnder Max Ruvinov, middle, recently opened a Covid testing site on The McPherson parking lot, 4704 McPherson Avenue. between Euclid and Taylor.
The testing site is affiliated with the Center for Covid Control, which has multiple locations across the country. Max (shown with nurses Jad and Bre) decided to open in the Central West End because “there just aren’t enough testing sites in the St. Louis area.”
“Most people go to Urgent Care to get Covid tests,” Max explained. “Operations such as these free those locations up to focus on what they do best.”
“We’ve been getting 50 to 60 people a day,” Max reported. “In the beginning most people walked in, though most are now arriving in their cars.”
Both the rapid test and the PCR test will be administered when you arrive. Results of the rapid test, which are 85% accurate*, are available in 5-15 minutes. The PCR test, which is more reliable, is sent to a lab in Chicago and results will be emailed within 48-72 hours.
*In my experience,” Max said, “we haven’t had anyone who tested positive on the rapid test, not test positive on the PCR test.”
The best news is that testing is free, no appointment or insurance is needed. However if you do have insurance bring that information, a driver’s license, state i.d., or passport if you are not a U.S. citizen.
Center for Covid Control at 4704 McPherson, (314) 439-6877, is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
