The annual CWE Families & Friends Easter Egg Hunt is set for this Sunday, March 24 at 4 p.m. in Kennedy Park, the triangular-shaped playground at Washington & Olive, just east of Euclid.
The event is sponsored by the Central West End Association and the CWE Community Improvement District, but all the “heavy lifting,” such as organizing the event and helping the Easter Bunny fill eggs with treats, falls on Dan Boccabella, above, chief organizer of the CWE Families & Friends Organization, his wife Robyn and son Dominic.
Before the fun begins however, there is more work to be done to get the park spiffed up for this event and the spring/summer season. Volunteers are needed to spread mulch this Friday, March 22, starting at 9:00 am.
A couple of weekends ago, a group of volunteers met at the park for the initial spring cleanup—raking leaves, trimming trees and shrubbery. Photos of those who joined the effort are shown in the flyer and in additional snapshots that follow.
Westminster Place resident Emma Hand. above, is one of the parents responsible for the creation of Kennedy Park, which opened in 2011, when her teenage daughters were toddlers.
9th Ward Alderman Michael Browning, above left, shown with Jim Dwyer. Browning’s wife Sarah Kogan, not photographed, pitched in to help too. CWEnder Jake Strelow is shown below.
If you are planning on attending Sunday, be sure to get the children there shortly before 4:00 with their Easter baskets ready, so they don’t miss the Easter Bunny, or finding some of the hidden eggs which are known to disappear almost immediately.
Thanks to Dan Boccabella and family, the Central West End Association, and CWE Community Improvement District for staging this wonderful event for neighborhood families.
